IMPORTANT UPDATE - WE MUST NOW ALL SELF-ISOLATE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO SLOW THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS.

The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

What you can do to try to avoid catching coronavirus:

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitizer gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

Don’t

do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

What are the Symptoms of Covid-19?

If you think you might have coronavirus you can now have a test.

The signs of coronavirus are:

  • High temperature
  • Or a new and continuous cough
  • Or loss of smell or taste

If anyone you live with has any of these signs then you must all stay at home.

If you have a cough or a temperature PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY.  If you think that you may have coronavirus or may have come into contact with someone who has, the NHS 111 online service has created coronavirus pages that give advice to patients based on your particular circumstances.

Nominate your Pharmacy

Due to current COVID-19 status we will be reducing the patient contacts by sending your prescription electronically to the pharmacy nearest to your home address. If you want to clarify which pharmacy we have sent your prescription to either check on-line or telephone the surgery.  

Please allow the pharmacy seven days before collecting your prescription unless it is needed more urgently. They are currently under extreme pressure, with minimal staff to cope with the workload.

Patients will no longer receive more than 3months medication. This is to help the community pharmacies maintain adequate stock levels for all patients.

Patients with stable long term medication which is collected on a regular basis will be automatically switched to electronic repeat dispensing. This allows the practice to issue batches of prescriptions, removing the need for the pharmacy or patient to order every 28/56 days. Patients will receive a text from the practice if they have been issued a prescription in this way.

Please do not order ‘just in case’ medication or to ‘stockpile’ medication, as this causes huge problems to supply of medication, and can leave other patients without medicines they need right now.

Repeat Prescriptions

From week commencing, Monday 23rd March we will temporarily be reinstating requests for repeat prescriptions over the telephone, this will support self isolating patients over 70’s and at risk. There will be a dedicated telephone option added to the main menu for repeat prescriptions. Lines will be open daily for the set times 13.30 - 18.00.

Pre-Existing Long Term Conditions

To help relieve the pressure from patients requesting evidence of pre-existing health conditions in regards to self isolation and to alleviate the need for the patients to present at the practice with original ID, we are asking patients to register for the NHS APP as this will act as a vehicle to securely verify their identity.  Patients' who have verified their ID, will then be given access to their medical records online.  Patients user ID and password will be sent separately to enable them to register online. SICK NOTE REQUESTS

Due to these unprecedented circumstances, we have been receiving lots of requests for sick notes for people who are self-isolating for coronavirus, the practice will not provide a medical certificate for these patients but you can self certify via https://www.gov.uk/government/news/online-isolation-notes-launched-providing-proof-of-coronavirus-absence-from-work 

 

Online Appointments Suspended

 

Following advice from NHS England in response to the risk of COVID-19 it has been necessary to suspend access to online booking:

This action is to mitigate any risk that potentially infected patients book appointments online and attend the practice when they should be receiving advice to self-isolate or go through testing.

The practice have now temporarily suspended access to appointments  booked online during this period and advise patients requiring appointments to contact the practice via the main reception telephone number.
